When Disney And Avatar Meet At The Hands Of A Talented Artist

Austin, TX based 2D Illustrator, Robby Cook, collides the universes of Disney and Avatar: The Last Air Bender. The characters we grew up with take on the dress and supernatural abilities featured in the wildly popular Nickelodeon cartoon series. The artwork is top-notch, and the decisions behind each concept are curious and imaginative enough to make us wonder how the tales of these princesses and villains would have changed (or stayed the same) if they could literally move mountains.

Each illustration includes a comment from Cook, which sheds a little light on why he chose to draw certain characters the way he did.

Air Bender Pocahontas

"She does paint with all the colors of the wind after all."

Megara, master of throwing daggers.

"I paired Megara from Hercules with Mai from Avatar Last Airbender... The two of them have very similar personalities."

Snow White and the Seven Earth Benders

"The characters most likely to be earth benders are the seven dwarfs. They work all day in a diamond mine. Doc is of course the earth king, because he doesn’t get his hands dirty and is the appointed leader. When the dwarfs discover Snow White in their kingdom, they take her in and teach her earth bending. She’s not so weak and innocent any more. "

 Fire Bender Jasmine

I decided to make Jasmine as the firebender simply because of her fiery personality. And Jasmine has her faithful side kick Rajah, who is a powerful fire nation lightning tiger.

Jafar, evil advisor to the Earth King and leader of the Dai Li

"I know Jafar could’ve easily been a fire-bender, but I felt his personality traits were much like that of Long Feng. He used the Earth King like a puppet, would hypnotize his victims, was manipulative, powerful, and all around a mean guy. That is why he is in green instead of red."

Rapunzel of the Ancient Sun Warriors

"Rapunzel did get her powers from the sun, and she has the fire of a fire bender. In the background is Pascal as a little Dragon."

Aurora of the Northern Water Tribe and the 3 Snow Fairies at the Spirit Oasis

"I took a little more creative freedom with this one. I feel that Princess Yue and Aurora had some similarities. Being born in to royalty, both betrothed at a young age and falling in love with someone else, and sleeping… A LOT."

Ursula, the Blood Bending Sea Witch

"I feel that Ursula at one point would have been a member of the water tribe, but became corrupted and started using her bending for evil. Ursula has always been a personal favorite of mine."

Esmerelda the Fire Bender

"I wasn’t planning on doing one of Esmeralda, but I watched Hunchback recently and I forgot how much I liked her. I especially loved her dance scene. Anyway, enjoy."

Tiana of the Swamp Benders

"Tiana creates an alligator moss creature to help her protect the swamp land."

Prince Eric and Ariel of the Water Tribe

"This initially was going to be about Prince Eric, but I wanted to draw Ariel again as a water bender. This may probably be the only couple pairing that I do."

Professor Belle and the Mystical Library

"I went back and forth with what to make Belle. She is one of my top 3 favorite Princesses."

Disney's Order of the White Lotus

"I cast different elderly Disney characters as master of different elements. Together they form the Order of the White Lotus.

From left to Right:

- Chief Powhatan: Master Air bender and High Priest of the Air Nomads.

- Maurice: Master earth/metal bender and lead inventor for the Earth King

- Merlin: Master Fire bender and tea connoisseur, and his faithful messenger hawk/owl

- Fa Zhou: Master swordsman and sword maker

- King Triton: Master Water bender and leader of the Northern Water Tribe.

I also put a hidden mickey logo in there… Well… not so hidden."

Mulan of the Kyoshi Warriors

"Who better to be a member of the Kyoshi Warrior clan?"

Fire Lord Maleficent

"And all the Powers of HELL! She has always been one of my favorite villains, and one of my favorites to work on with the Disney/ Avatar series. Gotta go big with the Mistress of All Evil."
