Watching The Olympics in 3D! Hmm . . .
Real life is in 3D, which works great, if you think about it, (what?), but sometimes 3D TV doesn't work out as well . . . Amanda had high hopes for The Olympics in 3D but finds that maybe they're just as good with regular old 2D TV. Read!
"Good news: we will be able to watch the Olympics in 3-D." A text that I received from my boyfriend only two days after our new, state of the art TV had arrived. I didn't really understand the appeal of this whole 3-D TV concept, but when the time came to sit down to actually watch the world's greatest athletes compete, I thought that this might actually be really cool, or at least we hoped.
We spent the night of the opening ceremonies watching the Yankees beat the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium, so missed out on when we had originally hoped to watch the Olympics opening ceremonies, but the next morning to our great glee, they were re-airing them. Not only did I love the music, I loved that I felt like I was there...kind of.
You see, we’ve watched a couple different movies that were made for 3-D that looked incredible, but the Olympics in 3-D were almost sub-par. I’ve found that I’d rather watch the athletes in regular definition than 3-D. And the thing is, the Olympics only air in 3-D during the day, while they’re live. So even if we wanted to watch the reruns of that day’s events, we’d be staring at screen that advised we come back tomorrow.
I had hoped that I would love watching the Olympics in 3-D a lot more than I did, but I think that the humor in this whole Olympic Games is how much I’ve been avoiding any and all media, including Facebook! Because of the difference in the time zones, by the time we’re done with our days at work, the Olympic outcomes have already happened. Each day, I’ve looked forward to going home to watch that day’s events, but if my eyes catch a glimpse of the big winners for the day online, it feels like you’re watching a movie you’ve never seen and already know the ending. Bummer, I know.
Tell me, how do you feel about this whole 3-D TV trend? Have you also been avoiding the news outlets in hopes of not knowing who wins what? Please say I’m not alone in this!
