The Most Delicious Moments at the Greenwich Wine + Food Festival 2013

The third annual Greewich Wine + Food Festival descended upon the placid Roger Sherman Baldwin Park this past Saturday and HooplaHa was there ready to chow down! Culinary luminaries and foodies alike wandered the festival grounds hoping from tent to tent taking in cooking demos, delectable bites from some of the best local restaurants, and a seemingly endless supply of tasty beverages.

Here are some of the best, most revelatory moments from our trek through the festival. Set your taste buds to yum!

Bacon Wrapped Date Stuffed with Goat Cheese, Paired with Sherry

This incredible morsel paired with a fine sherry from the wizards at the ever-popular Barcelona tapas restaurants was hands down the best bite of the day. We couldn't stop going back for more!

Bacon Flower

These should be a new Valentine's Day staple. Courtesy of the clever folks at Plan B Burger.

Beef Tongue Crostini

One of the best beef tongues we've ever had. It was a bit messy but well worth it! Courtesy of The Spread.

Bloody Caesar

This combination of a Bloody Mary and a classic Caesar salad was just crazy enough to work. The heat was just right and the mix packed a real flavor punch!

BBQ Chicken Breast and Pork Belly on a Potato Chip

That little nugget of pork belly gold in the back had a nice smokey note. Delicious!

Crab Cake on Fresh Pesto

Whoever thought of pairing a crab cake with pesto has our admiration forever. It hit all of the right notes!

Croquette with a Salmon Tartar Shooter

The croquette is the star of the show here; crisp to perfection with a gooey center. Magnifique!

Vodka Cranberry Cocktail with Fresh Mint

A simple cocktail enhanced by a sprig of fresh mint. Truly refreshing.

Duck Breast with Harvest Cherry Tomato

Who doesn't like a good duck breast served cold with a plump cherry tomato? Yum-my.

Dumplings and Cheese with Creamy Beet Sauce

A creamy surprise that looks sweet but actually had a mild flavor. An interesting way to use beets.

Head Cheese Sliders

That's right...head cheese. Don't let the name turn you off though, Oak + Almond have come up with a very unique slider that has a little bit of everything. We would have had another if we weren't so stuffed!

Honey Bourbon with Ginger

Honey bourbon is the nectar of the Gods. This is an irrefutable fact.

Lamb Meatballs

Pumpkin Slaw

Pumpkin done three ways comes together for a wonderfully healthy seasonal dish.

Okay enough with the food already! There was also a small army of world class chefs holding court all around the festival. We're talking legends like...

Chef Prasad Chirnomula (Thali)

Fun Fact: There is no such dish as Chicken Tikka Masala in India. It is entirely the invention of a bartender in the UK!

Top Chef 's Dale Talde Makes Soft Pretzel-Style Dumplings

Fun Fact: MSG is Dale's jam and he will defend it to the death!

Masterchef's Graham Elliot

Fun Fact: Graham was in a punk rock band but when it was apparent they weren't going to make it he turned to cooking. Good call

...And Top Chef All-Stars Champ Richard Blais Performing Culinary Magic!

Fun Fact: Don't throw away the stems of your herbs. They are packed with flavor and can be used in many different ways, such as in a topping for a great fish taco!

Thus our culinary adventure in foodie wonderland came to a close. We'd like to thank Serendipity for putting on the event which supports Paul Newman's The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. We can't wait for next year!

Brett Simon was a veteran K9 police officer who went on to work as a contractor for the Department of the Army as a bomb dog handler. However, after serving two tours in Iraq, he returned home suffering from PTSD.

Led by his Mom, Shari Duval, who had worked for veteran's charities near their home in Jacksonville Florida, Brett's family undertook two years of research to find a solution to help Brett and others with this condition.

Their research focused on canine assistance for PTSD. Ultimately, they started a non-profit organization. K9s For Warriors, dedicated to providing service dogs to warriors suffering from post-traumatic stress and/or traumatic brain injury as a result of their military service (post 9/11).
