The Country's Oldest Veteran Lives To Be 110 Years Old
These days, it's impressive to live into your 90's. But how about 110? America's oldest known veteran, Emma Didlake, lived to be 110-years-old. This inspiring woman suddenly died recently, but not after living a very impressive life.
Last month, Emma met President Obama at the White House. As this was very exciting, that's not even the most note worthy thing she has done. As an African American, joining the Army was not typical. She was stepping into a role that was reserved for white men. But she did what she wanted to.
“I didn’t know I was breaking barriers,” said Didlake. "But I enjoyed doing what I was doing because I had committed myself to do just this.”
She followed her heart, left her job as a housewife and joined the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in 1943. This hero put our country before her own life; not worrying about segregation or what was 'right.' She lived to be 110, dying after falling ill suddenly. She lived a great life, however, and is an inspiration to us all.
