Poodle's Job Is To Make People Happy... It's Working!
6-year-old poodle, Nala, has a really important job. Nala and her owner, Doug Dawson, work at the Lyngblomsten senior housing community in St. Paul, MN. Nala's job is to make people happy and she does it all on her own.
“I set her down and she takes off,” Doug says. “She belongs to the people, I’m her chauffeur.”
Doug and Nala meet up at the end of the day, but until then Nala's schedule is completely up to her... she goes where she is needed most. Whether it's visiting residents in group therapy, playing bingo or giving love to hospice patients and their families, Nala's purpose is to bring happiness to their lives. No one directs Nala, she senses where she is needed.
“If you’re depressed, she’ll make you laugh. If you’re sick, she’ll lay with you. If you’re dying, she can tell,” Doug says.
She really is an incredible animal!
“She can tell time,” Doug laughs. “She knows when it’s time to go home.” Doug says that Nala’s time at home is for playing and acting like a dog, running in circles and playing with her toys. Then, Doug says, she “curls into a ball the size of a donut and sleeps.”
