Paralyzed Graduate Walks to Receive Diploma
Chris Norton was paralyzed 5 years ago while playing football at Luther College. Doctors told him that he had a 3 percent chance of ever walking again, but he beat the odds when he walked across the stage to receive his college diploma with help from his financee.
The night before graduation Norton proposed to his now financee Emily Summers,
who had been his motivation since 2013.
Norton has endured nearly five years of rehabilitation to be able to walk again from the accident that happened in October 2010. Norton focused on his faith and found support in his family to help him get through the difficult time.
Norton had made the decision nearly a year ago that he would walk to receive his diploma, and that is exactly what happened. With the help of Summers, the couple walked across the stage to receive the diploma and shake hands with administrators.
Norton has also been a part of writing the book "The Power of Faith When Tragedy Strikes", which will be released this summer or fall.
