4 Inspiring Ways Your Father Is Your Own Personal Superhero
Who says superheroes aren't real?
On June 19, 1910, the first-ever Father's Day was celebrated. However, it took 62 years to be recognized as a national holiday! Today, we celebrate fathers all around the world. Fathers are selfless, they motivate us, they inspire us, and they take action and with these traits, they become our personal superheroes.
1. Fathers Are Selfless.
Fathers will give up everything for their kids. Lifetime Bruins fan Mark Karolkiewicz won the opportunity of a lifetime through Coca-Cola, Boston Bruins, and Shaw's Supermarket's "Player For a Day" experience, where the winner of the contest gets to sign with the Boston Bruins for one day. Even though Mark is a super fan, he gave his son Eric the prize.
2. Fathers Motivate Us.
Fathers motivate us to go the extra mile. In January 2016, Shane Boylan lost his father to depression and alcoholism. Shane's father's love of biking motivated Shane to start a fundraiser with the Hope for Depression Research Foundation. He biked 10 miles, raised close to $4,000 dollars, and has kept his father's legacy alive.
3. Fathers Inspire Us.
Fathers touch our souls. 10 years ago, Jeni Maenner's father Michael Stepian was shot and killed in a robbery. To honor him and to keep his legacy alive, Jeni and her family donated his organs. Michael Stepian's heart ended up going to a man named Arthur Thomas. Jeni's wedding was coming up and all she wanted was her father to be part of the ceremony. So, Jeni asked Arthur, the man who took her father's heart to walk her down the aisle. It was like her father was there, and they both couldn't be happier about it.
4. Fathers Take Action.
Fathers will go above and beyond for their kids. When his daughter Kennedy Snyder was diagnosed with a spinal cord tumor at age 2, Jeff Snyder took action and created Warriors for a Cure. Warriors for a Cure focuses on raising money for pediatric care in the hopes of one day finding a cure. His initiative to help others has made significant changes to the Pediatric Care Community.
Today, give your father a hug and thank him for all he does. Fathers are selfless, motivational and inspirational and these are the qualities that make them our own personal superheroes, not just on Father's day but every day!
