Massive Mural Promotes Peace In Mexican Neighborhood
Art can be extremely powerful. Waves of orange, blue, green, yellow and purple flood the walls of over 200 houses in a Mexican neighborhood.
Las Palmitas is Mexico's drug capital, usually promoting crime and violence. Street artists 'German Crew' transformed the neighborhood with a massive mural, with the help of the youth living in the town.
The project involved 452 families, or 1,808 people living in the neighborhood. By keeping teens busy it left little time for them to be involved in crime and violence. When people look at the mural, they will see bright, new beginnings. Maybe it will continue to curb the crime in the town. The large mural helps bring attention to under-served neighborhoods and helps boosts residents' sense of pride.
