Man Proposes To Girlfriend At Her Last Chemo Session

Tamara Bruzzo has a lot of reasons to be excited for the future. One reason is that she has just finished her last round of chemotherapy, another is that she can start planning a wedding!

Bruzzo and her now fiancé, Lucas D'Onofrio, have been dating for six years since they met at Spanish River Community High School in Boca Raton. Things got difficult earlier this year when Bruzzo was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at the age of 21.

"To hear the doctor confirm that, it was very heartbreaking and soul-crushing,'' D'Onofrio said. "There was nothing I could do, and that was the worst part. I tried to keep it positive the entire time, and it did bring us a lot closer together. It really showed our husband-and-wife qualities."

Bruzzo felt the same way about their relationship.

"We've had some ups and downs like every relationship does, but this was one of the toughest things to go through,'' Bruzzo said. "I went through so many changes in such a short period of time, but he didn't let that affect us."

D'Onofrio even shaved his head to support Bruzzo when her hair started falling out because he wanted to show that he was there for her no matter what.

Bruzzo completed her last round of chemotherapy that night and has a PET scan next week, however her doctors don't believe that the scan will reveal that she will need more chemotherapy.

The couple plans on getting married at the end of 2016 and Bruzzo is more than excited and grateful.

"I just felt so special and so much support from my family and friends,'' Bruzzo said. "Everybody who has seen me has been like, 'When is your wedding?' It's just been an amazing time."
