5 Golfers Who Are Inspiring Us!

August is National Golf Month, and here are some golfers who inspire!


1. HooplaHa: Guiding Eyes For The Blind: When Hitting the Tee Becomes A Team Sport

Dick Pomo and his wife, Sharon have been golfing for over 20 years. He has been legally blind since birth, and Sharon is his coach that helps guide him by getting him lined up, giving him an idea of the distance, and getting a feel of the greens. Having a partner and working as a team enables Dick to compete and do what he loves.

2. 7-year-old inspiring golfer Tommy on "Little Big Shots"

Tommy is a 7-year-old inspirational golfer. Despite being born with one arm, he has some serious golf skills. He was featured on "Little Big Shots" displaying his talent.

3. Jake Olson, inspirational golfer works towards his PGA dream

At 16, Jake Olson is a golfer who is blind. At age 12, he lost his sight due to cancer. Despite adversity, Jake is working towards his goal of being the first blind golfer to compete at the PGA Tour. His dad helps him line up the ball and tells him the distance of the shot. He is also a motivational speaker and wrote a book called, "Open Your Eyes: 10 Uncommon Lessons to Discover a Happier Life."

4. Sydney Pomajzl, inspiring golf star and ANA inspirational tournament guest of honor

At 16, Sydney Pomajzl was the star of her high school golf team. She was born with fibular hemimelia in her right leg, which required an amputation when she was a baby. Now, she wears a prosthetic leg and says that she focuses on her golf game instead of her prosthetic. She considers it to be her normal and does not let anything get in the way of her improving. To others, she is an inspiration and was invited as a guest of honor at the ANA Inspiration LPGA Tournament and got to play golf with professionals.

5. Jason Day's Story

Jason Day, an Australian professional golfer and PGA Tour Member, overcame setbacks in life to eventually make it to the top of the golf world. His family lived on a farm and he grew up very poor; one day he found a golf club while digging through a landfill which started his golf journey. After school every day, he would stay at the golf course until dark. He started to win big tournaments and started improving even more. In 2000, his father got sick and and passed, at the time Jason was only 12. He started drinking, getting into fights, getting in trouble, and his sister had run away from home for 4 years. Instead of sending his sisters to college, his mother sent him to Kooralbyn. He started to succeed again when he found Colin, who coached him through his career. He worked extremely hard and had a drive to improve, despite adversity and setbacks, to achieve his dream.

They ski, run, swim, skate, throw and play with the same drive and intensity of Olympic athletes. Despite physical or mental limitations they may have, these athletes have an enviable drive to participate and enjoy their abilities any way that they can. More Than A Dancer

This little girl dreamed of one day dancing. Unfortunately, she suffers from cerebral palsy, making this dream more difficult to fulfill than others. In spite of it all, she is able to overcome the obstacles and defeat the odds. Meet Meg Worrick, the 13-year old dancer.

Meg first knew she wanted to become a dancer when she attended one of her little sister's dance recitals. She was filled with an overwhelming emotion of sadness, seeing her sister up on the stage, wishing she could be up there dancing too. With the unconditional support from her parents, dance studio, and dance instructor, this dream became a reality.

His owner found him and had to give CPR and brought him back to life. He still suffers some medical issues due to his circumstances but he is truly a miracle baby!
