Former NBA Player Reunites With His Son After 29 Years
Eddie is a 6'9 former NBA player, who played for the great Jerry Tarkanian at UNLV, was drafted by the Spurs in the late 1970s to play behind "the Iceman" George Gervin, played professional basketball in Europe, and then went through a difficult period that lead to years of homelessness.
One of Miracle Messages' summer interns, met Eddie at MSC-South, the largest shelter in SF 3 weeks ago. Eddie said he hadn't seen his son Darren in 29 years, and recorded a Miracle Message (MM) to him. Within a few days, the team at Miracle Messages located Eddie's son in Ireland, connected with him via email, and learned that Darren had been looking for Eddie for many years, too. He recorded a MM response video.
The following week at MSC-South, Eddie saw Darren's video. After many tears, Eddie asked if we could record another MM to his son. "Of course," we said.
Later that day, Eddie was reunited with his son via a video call and ESPN was on hand capturing this amazing footage.
This has been an amazing journey, but it's far from over. Darren will be coming in from Ireland on Thanksgiving, Eddie is planning on getting his teeth worked on and running with Back on My Feet. Let's rally around Eddie to help him get even more back on his feet by supporting this Facebook fundraiser we set up for his basic needs.
