Complete Strangers Come Together To Help Homeless College Student
Fred Barley, a homeless college student, has witnessed beautiful humanity first hand. After riding nearly 6 hours on a bike from Conyers, Georgia, to Barnesville, Georgia, to register for classes for his second semester of college. With nowhere to stay until campus opened, he slept out in the bushes. When cops found him, he wasn't sure what was going to happen. But he was delighted when they just wanted to help.
"He was so understanding and he said, 'I definitely I applaud you for doing this. We can't allow you to stay here, but I have somewhere you can stay,'" Barley told WSB.
Without a second thought, the officers took him to a local motel and paid for his next two nights. "The stuff that's happening with police officers, I am black and he didn't care what color I was. He just helped me, and that meant a lot," Barley said.
That's not all that happened, though. After his story was put on Facebook, strangers from all over, send money to help Barley. Someone paid for him to stay in a hotel until campus opened. Another gave him a job at their pizzeria. People have donated clothes, school supplies, shoes, a new bike and are working to get him a car. People have also stepped up to take care of his dental and medical needs. There is a Facebook page called Success For Fred and also started a GoFundMe page that's raised nearly $9,000 in two days. These people don't even know Fred; which proves that there are people out there who are willing to help others!
