8-Year-Old Author Donates All Book Sales to Help Friend Fight Disease
Dylan Siegel is an eight year old author with sales near $1 million dollars for his book, "Chocolate Bar". And that's not the only thing that makes this little boy so special. Dylan's father confirmed that his son hasn't touched a penny of the proceeds from his book sales. They are going directly toward a fund at the University of Florida where research is being done on glycogen storage disease (GSD) -- an illness Siegel's best friend, Jonah Pournazarian, is living with.
"I am so so so excited to be able to help my friend," Dylan told CBS News Los Angeles. "I am thankful to people everywhere for letting me share my story and inspire kids to change the world." GSD has many different types that affect how sugar is stored in the body. As a result Jonah, who was diagnosed at the age of 6 months, must be fed a special formula daily through a tube in his stomach. Dr. David Weinstein who is running the research at the University said that funding was nearly out before receiving the Seigel family's generous donation. Now there is still hope for finding a cure.
