World Down Syndrome Day: Student Directs Film About His Life With The Disorder
March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day; raising awareness for the disorder. It is celebrated every year to 'help raise awareness of what Down syndrome is, what it means to have Down syndrome, and how people with Down syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities.' Some of the most incredible, hardworking individuals we've met are living Down syndrome; like Jeff Smith.
Born with Down syndrome Jeff was a very sick child. He had to move to California because of his health needs. His strong will and incredible optimism didn't allow him to be held back. Jeff's determination led him straight to his dreams!
Jeff had a dream to tell his story. With a calling in film, Jeff enrolled in the Livermore Film and Media Workshop, run by Futures Explored and Inclusion Films. He would stop at nothing to become a director. With the support of his instructors, mentors and classmates he was able to make a film based on his life, “Save Me Mine,” written and directed by Jeff Smith.
