Women Bike Across Canada To Fundraise For Female Farmers
Could you travel 8,710 km with only a bike? Sarah French and Mary Fehr are doing a bike trip across Canada in order to fundraise a project for female farmer workers residing in Ghana.
Mary first got the idea when she visited Tanzania with Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) and witnessed the issues in Tanzania such as poverty and inequality for the females.
"We are doing this 8,710 km trek because we believe in an NGO called MEDA. I went to Nicaragua with MEDA as an intern in 2013/2014 to work on sustainable development in agriculture. I had lived in Argentina and in Spain as a university exchange, but in Nicaragua I really got to see poverty for the first time," Sarah said.
Mary discussed these issues with Sarah and they created "Bike to grow". They believed it would be symbolic to have two girls bike across Canada to support the MEDA project "Greater Rural Opportunities for Women in Ghana" which focused on female independence
