Useful Painting Tips For Everyone
Work to do around the house? Looking to switch gears and change things up by brightening up a room? Well then, check out these tips compiled by The Huffington Post!
When the color is picked out, for most people, the real work begins. What’s the deal with primer, how can I get it to look professional, can I use leftover paint? These questions are all about to be answered.
- Use leftover paint if you have it.
Paint is a lot more durable than you think. It can survive freezing a few times and should still be good enough to use. Just don’t use it if it looks like cottage cheese.
- Invest in a clamp light.
Lighting is important. By utilizing a clamp light, you are allowed a better look at the wall you are working on. It shows imperfections better and it allows you to see how smooth your painting has been.
- Choose the correct primer.
When you are priming the walls, tint the primer a color that is close to the color you are painting. This gives the wall a fuller look, faster.
- Season your roller brush by using tape.
Just as you would use tape to get rid of cat or dog hair, use tape to remove excess hairs and fibers that stick out of new paint rollers. Nothing is more frustrating that seeing a wall with bristles dried into the paint!
- Paint on vertical stripes.
This gives the paint more uniform coverage.
- Keep wet paint rollers in sealed plastic bags.
This keeps the rollers from drying out. This will keep the rollers fresh for the next day of painting!
