USA Olympic Uniforms Through The Years
Amanda and I have been perusing the archives looking at all the photos of Olympic uniforms past and present . . . she says she's not a fashionista but here's a secret: I am! p.s. I want an Olympic uniform. (All past archival photos from the Associated Press.)
The hype and controversy around this year’s U.S. Olympic uniforms, designed by Ralph Lauren but made in China, was exuberant when the attire was released to the public last month. But now that that has died down, Hoopie asked me to take a look back at some of the outfits of years past. The main thing I noticed was that the colors stayed the same -- no surprise -- and there were always hats of a sort. Hmm.
Although the earlier outfits seemed to be a little more plain and conservative, I liked that the red, white, and blue stayed consistent. I think it was interesting though that there wasn’t too much spunk or variety in the outfits. Each was reflective of the decade that it fell into, of course, but for the most part, they’re all clean cut. I’m not fashionista (so watch Project Runway for that), but for a surprisingly conservative dresser, I guess I was hoping for something with a little more “POW!”
