Unstoppable: Progression of the LGBTQIA+ Community

The month of June (Pride Month) celebrates the LGBTQAI+ community and, among other things, commemorates the Stonewall riots in Greenwich Village that happened at the end of June in 1969. Events such as the Pride Parade are held each year around this time all over the world. The LGBTQAI+ community has gained more and more acceptance and come a long way from the Stonewall Inn incident culminating in the recent legalization of same-sex marriage. Here are a couple of stories that exemplify how far things have come and how "love is love":

The Cycling Studio Flash Mob Proposal That Went Viral! www.youtube.com

Same sex marriage became legal under the Obama administration in June of 2015. Couples all across America who weren't able to be married before, are racing to get married now. Jared and Adam's road to marriage started with a unique proposal that Adam came up with in an incredibly creative way. Jared and Adam both worked at JoyRide; Jared as a coach and Adam as a trainee. Adam saw this as the perfect way to propose and put together a flash mob at the gym to surprise Jared! It was timed perfectly and Jared was floored. Adam had the all the cyclists in class wear tank tops that said "Team Jared," and had friends and family come out with signs in support of the proposal. By the end of it all Jared said yes! The video went VIRAL and sent a message of joy and hope to people all over the world that acceptance was growing and there is a place for people like them.

In this next video we have the pleasure of meeting Aydian Dowling, who was initially born female but identified and felt more authentic being male. Aydian knew he was different from a young age. As he grew and began to question his gender, it was then that he identified as a lesbian because he liked and felt comfortable with women. Then one day one of his friends asked him whether he thought about being a boy. This stuck with him until he eventually realized that this was exactly what he wanted. He began his journey and soon attracted a following. When he saw that there was a contest to be on a magazine cover, his supporters pushed him to enter it! He won the contest and was the first transman to ever be on the cover of Men's Health magazine! This was not only a win for Aydian but a win for the trans community. His perseverance has inspired others just like him to follow their hearts and dreams. We also meet Jenilee, Aydian's wife, and learn about their vision for a life of love and family in the future.

The Creation Of Us (S2:E1) – Meet Christen and Heather www.youtube.com

Season 2 of the Creation of Us brings us to Christen and Heather. Christen grew up as an only child in a very close knit Catholic family. One day when she was nine years old, she realized that she was staring at a woman in a department store and bluntly asked her mom why she looked at women the same way her mother looked at her father. This was the beginning of an awareness that would not be fully understood until she was older. Heather grew up as an only child as well and also had a very tight, loving, Catholic family. Heather felt that she never fit in. She was a tomboy while her mom, from the South, had always felt that girls had to wear dresses and do things girls did. At first Heather came out as bisexual but circumstances led her finally to recognize who she was. Luckily for the two of them, they were completely accepted by their families, and received full support. Their story is a happy one about the often long and circuitous path to discovery and love.

These are the voices of veterans of Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq and other foreign wars who share a common pain and stress when returning to life at home after their deployment. Warrior Hike founder Sean Gobin experienced these feelings as well on his return, but discovered a way to decompress and find balance and calm in his life again.
