Tracy’s Agonizing Decisions - Which Dogs Can Be Rescued? (A Dog’s Journey Home E6)
The shelter is overcrowded, dark and cold. Many of the dogs are sick or injured from lack of care. Tracy only has room to choose a few from all that need help and it's heartbreaking. "I feel like I had a spoon trying to empty the ocean," she says sadly. "I took the ones I could but the majority I had to leave." Who lives and who dies – this is the agony of every TracysDogs shelter visit.
On this episode, we will see Tracy in South Texas/Brownsville choosing and securing her new group of dogs to be prepped and readied for their Adoption day in Indianapolis. With a passion for helping sick animals, Tracy knows some of her picks are high risk – Uno has only one eye and is pregnant; Bingo and Zina are little dogs with pep but both have a cough; Juno is sweet but has a bad shoulder wound; Tucker was diagnosed with distemper, a very challenging condition to treat.
Tracy has Veterinary Techs Johnnie Denton and Crystal Villagrana with her during the walk-throughs. They do preliminary testing right in the shelters to help her make the difficult decisions of which dogs she thinks they will be able to bring to the TracysDogs facility to help recover and become adopted.
Ultimately, with the help of some friends who volunteer to foster some of the dogs, Tracy is able to rescue 69 animals on this trip. It's all hands on deck when the van pulls up with 50+ dogs who are frightened and desperate for a helping hand. Now the hard work of intake which requires immediate diagnosis, treatment, feeding, love and lots of paperwork can begin.
Watch this emotional, behind the scenes look at what rescue is really all about. Keep watching A Dog's Journey Home to see the next step of the journey for these dogs after the 3-4 week process of training, grooming and getting medically ready to meet their new families.
