Top 5 Charities To Stop Addiction, Inspired By The "Addiction Angel"

Alicia Reddy who is also known as the "Addiction Angel," is truly an angel on earth. Her mission is to help those who are struggling with addiction problems. Reddy is a registered nurse and a drug interventionist. She is extremely passionate about helping those in need. She started this charitable act when three of her close family members struggled with addictions and substance abuse and she was there to help. When she is not working as an RN at Staten Island University Hospital, the Addiction Angel holds interventions or is helping families and friends who are helping their loved ones fight through addiction.

1) Amy Winehouse Foundation

This charity was formed after the tragic death of British soul-singer, Amy Winehouse. After her fatal overdose and passing in 2011, this foundation was organized to prevent the effects of drug and alcohol addiction among young people. Through music education, music therapy programs, and drug prevention programs, the Amy Winehouse Foundation aims to support those who are most vulnerable to drug abuse and addiction. In addition, this foundation also provides scholarships to students who come from broken or disadvantaged families. 2) Shatterproof
Shatterproof was formed in 2011 by Gary Mendell, an entrepreneur who lost his son to drug addiction. Since the formation of Shatterproof, the organization has raised more than $9 million dollars and is extremely active in various advocacy campaigns, lobbying for legislation, as well as addressing any gaps in funding for addiction treatment programs. Shatterproof's mission is to protect from drug and alcohol addiction and to end the suffering of those affected by addiction. Natural High is an organization that looks to inspire youth to find their own path in living a substance-free lifestyle. This organization was created in response to the ineffectiveness of the prevailing Just Say No program. Natural High provides educational programs that has reached out to more than 20,000 classrooms. 4) To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA)
To Write Love on Her Arms is an organization that was founded in 2006 to help tackle substance abuse issues and related mental health issues such as depression, suicide and self-harm. TWLOHA has raised millions of dollars for other related organizations around the world. This foundation has also partnered with universities, social media platforms, and music tours including the notable VANS Warped Tour to help spread their positive message.

5) Angels at RiskAngels at Risk
This non-profit organization was created by former Cheers TV star, Ted Danson. Angels at Risk reaches out to thousands of families nationwide by addressing issues that children and families are facing and who are affected by substance abuse. Angels at Risk provides family supports groups and parent/teenager education/support groups that educate them on the dangers of substance abuse. Their mission is their belief that reaching out to teenagers can help families heal from addiction, but can also help other struggling families through sharing their stories of addiction.
