Toms Shoes Creating New Line Of Coffee To Provide Clean Water
(Source: The New York Times)
Blake Mycoskie's business model of giving away a pair of shoes for every pair sold has given Toms shoes a success story that now boasts a massive corporate donation equaling ten million pairs of shoes. The company also expanded into eyewear to help restore vision to 200,000 people, as well as underwriting surgical operations and eye health programs. Now Mycoskie is expanding into the coffee market in order to provide clean water through the organization Water For People, a non-profit group that develops sustainable water systems worldwide. The United Nations estimates more than two billion people lack clean water for cooking, drinking and sanitation purposes. With every bag of coffee sold, Toms will finance a week’s worth of clean water for one person. With every cup, a day’s worth of water will be made available for one person. It's simple math, but with such a great impact.
