Meet Jessica, The World's First Licensed Armless Pilot And A Beautiful Soul
"Overcoming obstacles is pretty much part of my everyday life," says Jessica Cox. That's because every day of her life, she has been "figuring out how to do everything without the use of arms and hands."
Jessica was born without arms, a condition that could have isolated and depressed many people. But Jessica has never seen herself as a "victim." She credits her parents with instilling in her a positive attitude—she says that they always told her to "see myself as the empowered one"—and a resilience that has driven Jessica to accomplishments that most people with two arms never achieve.
Having built up amazing strength and flexibility in her legs, Jessica is adept at daily activities like driving, putting on makeup, and brushing her hair using her feet and toes. But that's not all. Jessica is the world's first licensed armless pilot and first armless black-belt in the American Taekwondo Association!
A positive attitude and a lot of creativity: those are the two keys to overcoming obstacles, according to Jessica. "If you're creative enough, you can always figure out a new way of doing something," she says.
Perhaps the most inspiring piece of advice that Jessica has to offer is to turn any challenge or hardship you face into an opportunity, whether to learn more for yourself or to help others. In her work an international keynote and motivational speaker, Jessica has clearly abided by her own advice and has chosen to make her unique physical condition a chance to share her story and inspire people who need it. Thank you, Jessica!
