Dog owners know that their pets pick up on not only what they say, but how they say it.  Evolutionary biologists are studying "vocal-perception strategies" to find out exactly how this happens -- noting that a common ancestor must have shared this common trait in order to make this possible.  Just another reason why we're best friends.

Dance Gave Her Love, a Community, and an Identity

At 2 1/2 years old, Shaina Schwartz and her Mom went to see the Nutcracker. Even though this was the first time she had ever seen any kind of a dance performance, as soon as it was over she excitedly said, "Mommy, that's what I want to do!"

Her long road toward becoming a dancer and then an owner and founder of a dance company had its share of ups and downs. Shaina started taking ballet lessons at a professional studio in New Hampshire at 5 years old and in her younger years, the regimen and regularity of the training was a good fit for her serious nature.
