Thanksgiving Lacrosse Tournament Gives Back To Wounded Troops
Sticks for Soldiers is a charity lacrosse tournament that raises money for wounded troops. The Fairfield Ludlowe High School boys lacrosse program is hosting the 12th Annual Sticks for Soldiers Thanksgiving Lacrosse Classic on Saturday, November 25th, 2017. Their main mission is to provide support and give thanks to the men and women who serve our country.
Last year, 58 boys and girls teams that included nearly 900 high school athletes raised over $100,000. In 11 years, more than $675,000 has been donated locally to wounded servicemen and their families since its inception by Mike Voucas in 2006.
It also raises awareness. All of us tend to forget. For high school athletes, the chance to compete and raise money for wounded men and women just a few years older than themselves is unforgettable.
"It is a great way to teach our kids what these people sacrifice for our safety," said one of the organizers. "I'm glad we can expose them to this."
