Pin-Ups For Vets Creates Stunning Calendars Featuring Outstanding Female Veterans

When you hear the term "pin-up calendar," what comes to mind? Perhaps you feel nostalgia for another era of American history, a pre-Internet world where people had to carry letters, photos, and calendars around with them in physical form. Well, think again, because pin-up calendars are back—and they're being used to help and honor our active military service people and Veterans on a perfect day - Veterans' Day.

Pin-Ups for Vets is the unique nonprofit organization behind the modern pinup calendar. For the last 12 years, Pin-Ups for Vets has supported hospitalized Veterans and deployed troops through numerous initiatives, all centered around the beautiful and empowering WWII-style pin-up calendars they create. The 2018 fundraising calendar features 21 outstanding female Veterans as models in fun, colorful, and striking photos like these:

A few recent initiatives from Pin-Ups for Vets include visiting Wounded Warriors at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany and active service members at 24 different bases, working with homeless Veteran shelters, shipping morale-boosting care packages to troops deployed around the globe, and doing fun pin-up-style makeovers for female Vets and military wives.

To date, Pin-Ups for Vets has visited over 11,000 Veterans across the United States. The organization has also donated over $56,000 to help VA Hospitals purchase new therapy equipment and to provide financial assistance to expand domestic Veterans' healthcare programs. Due to its compassionate, creative, and hugely impactful work, Pin-Ups for Vets has received Congressional Recognition, among many other honors—so deserved! There have also been 9 flags flown above military bases and on mission in Iraq and Afghanistan in honor of their work.

Pin-Ups for Vets is currently on a 50-state VA and military hospital tour, bringing donated calendars as gifts of appreciation to hospitalized Veterans. This is such important and meaningful work, as this reflection from a recreational therapist at the Los Angeles VA Hospital makes clear: "Overall, the Veterans' quality of life increases and their spirits are so uplifted. I personally can see an improvement in their cognitive, physical, and social functioning."
