Patrick Stewart Gives Incredible Response To A Fan's Questions
Youtube user, Heather Skye, attended 2013 Comicapalooza, where she took the opportunity to ask Patrick Stewart what she referred to as "a more sombre question." Prompted by the knowledge of his work in preventing violence against women, Skye asks Stewart what his most important work is outside of acting. In response, he eloquently re-tells a shortened history of his own experiences with domestic violence, and being raised by a war veteran who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (then referred to as "Shell Shock").
He tells Skye, and the rest of a captivated audience, that it is those experiences that spur him to work equally in promoting the health and safety of both women who don't feel safe in their own homes, and of soldiers who have been exposed to the brutality of combat.
Patrick Stewart is a hero. The jury is in.
In the description of this video, Sky sends a hopeful message to survivors of abuse:
I hope everyone who needs help in abusive or violent situations has the courage to do so. There are people willing and ready to help you.
She didn't expect Stewart to hug her after he answered her question, and I'm sure she didn't expect to become a hero in her own right by prompting sharing something that many people need to hear.
