National Pink Day!

It's National Pink Day on Saturday, folks, so pull out those pink t-shirts!  Pink is Amanda's favorite color, and she tells us why below.  You might not think owls have a favorite color, but pink is my favorite color too!  My second favorite color is sky blue, because that's my world. (Note:  Remember to pull out this special color again for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October!)

You may laugh at the following statement, but I'm a firm believer that if everything was pink, the world would be a happier and better place. Say what?! I know you're smirking right now, but please hear me out! I have some logic behind the madness that a color, especially the color pink, could make the world a better place. I promise.

Besides being vibrant and girly, pink is one of those colors that creates an instant happy for me. Whether it's a pink tissue box, pink nail polish, or even a pink cookie, my mood lifts.  To list out all of the pink items that I own would take way too long, but I will share some.

Pink Canon camera! Every time I take this little camera out, I smile. But not only do I enjoy using this little camera, I enjoy the fact that something pink is helping me capture a special moment.

Pink phone cover! To many of my friend’s horror, my first phone cover was...wait for! What? Don’t worry, it had some pink accents. But when it started to break, I switched back to my go-to color of pink.

Pink shoelaces! The fun part of my little camera is that I can select it so that only certain colors show up, and everything else is black and white. So while traveling in Europe last fall, I decided to only pick up the pink in my shoelaces while walking through gardens with my parents. Lacing up to go running, even on cold or rainy days is much more fun with brightly colored laces!

Pink key! My boyfriend and I recently moved, and I wanted to get a key that was a different color for the entrance to the condo.  But of course, I chose pink! (Don’t worry, I got a blue one for him. He’s not a pink fan like me.)

Yes, so many of these items, which I’ve chosen to be pink, happen to be material items. But it’s not about the items. It’s about the happiness that a simple color brings. You’re probably still wondering, well why then would this make the world a better place? It’s because if this one color made everyone in the world as happy as it makes me, then maybe some peace would come, and the world could be simply happier. Do you own anything pink? Is there a color that you like that brings an instant happy? Share with me in the comments!

The flickering neon sign reflects eerily off the aging, chrome exterior; a long smooth marble counter with spinning stools draws your gaze left and right as you enter; the checkered linoleum floor seeps under the rows of back-to-back leather booths enveloped by the rain streaked wrap-around windows. You may think you've entered a typical American roadside eatery, but your experience here will be anything but ordinary.

You have just stepped into the Bendix Diner, a staple in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey since the 1940's. It's no surprise that The Bendix can serve up a sizzling Burger with deep fried onion rings and a frothy chocolate shake. What is unique about this meal is the waiter who delivers it to your table – his name is John Diakakis, and he is blind.
