Mission Clean Water: Man Walks Cross-Country Carrying Water To Raise Awareness
James Leitner is currently pulling 90lbs of water across the US to raise funds and spread awareness for the water issues many people face around the world, but specifically in Tanzania. He's backpacking 3,215 miles from New Jersey to San Francisco while carting 10 gallons of water. Assuming they live 9 miles from a water source, this is the same distance someone in Tanzania would walk to get water over the course of a year.
He began in Princeton, NJ in May, and will be completing this journey on October 6th in San Francisco.
Prior to this mission, he completed 12 marathons in 12 months while carrying 45lbs of water on his head. He did this to show the long walks and the struggle some people have go through to get water; he completed this on May 17, 2017.
To help raise money and support technical assistance for clean water projects, James is currently working with the Philadelphia Serengeti Alliance.
