Miss America Wants Young Girls To Be True To Themselves
If you saw the movie Pitch Perfect then you know the famous red solo cup performance by Anna Kendrick. This year's Miss America Pageant paid tribute to that performance. Miss New York, Kira Kazantsev sang Pharrell Williams' "Happy" while sitting cross-legged and hitting a red plastic cup on the floor. Her choice of talent definitely had many opinions from viewers, some negative. But Kira explains why she chose the movie inspired performance. "The reason why I chose to do that talent is I wanted every single little girl in America to be able to see that you can do that talent — you can do whatever talent you want on national television — even with a red cup — and still be Miss America and have the time of your life," Kazantsev said. "I literally in that minute and 30 seconds had the most fun I've ever had, and that's because I stayed true to myself and I did what I wanted to do for my talent, no matter what everybody else told me, and it paid off. I'm very happy about it." It is really important for young girls to know it is okay to be different. Kira proves any one and any talent can win Miss America. She definitely gives younger generations inspiration and hope. Kira also has her home state of New York very proud, making the third year in a row win! Hmm... what are they putting in the water?! Congrats again, Kira.
