"Mary's Meals" Provides 1 Million Children With Healthy Meals
In 2002, Mary’s Meals, a UK based charity started at providing 200 children in Malawi with a nutritious meal at school. Today, they now provide 1 million of the world's poorest children with a healthy meal every day. The exact number of children Mary’s Meals feeds is 1,035,637 – across countries including Liberia, Kenya, Zambia, Haiti and India.
Mary's Meals believes that every child should receive one daily meal in their place of education, and that all those who have more than they need, share with those who lack even the most basic things.
The charity currently serves schools in over 12 countries. They are have community-run school feeding programs, which encourage children, who otherwise wouldn't have food, to come to school, where they can receive a nutritious meal that helps them to concentrate on their studies.
The plan is to get hungry children into a classroom where they can earn an education, be fed and set them up for a brighter future. "The nutritious daily meal draws chronically hungry children into the classroom, where they can receive an education that can help them escape poverty in the future."
