Dance, Shake, and Donate for Teen's Fundraiser To Help Cure Parkinson's Disease
** OGTV is commemorating World Parkinson's Disease Day with this story about a young lady who is getting people to dance and shake to raise awareness and donate funds for Parkinson's research. **
Parkinson's disease affects nearly 10 million people worldwide. 15-year-old Zoe Butchen from Ridgefield, CT knows these affects all too well. This charitable teen's father was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease last year. With a history of charitable deeds, Zoe knew she had to do something to help her dad and the cause.
Zoe created the "Dance, Shake and Donate" campaign. Inspired by her lifelong love of dance, Zoe's campaign encourages people to post videos of themselves dancing and make a contribution to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. She has always loved to dance and when her favorite artist, Taylor Swift, came out with the song "Shake It Off", it fits perfectly with her fundraising idea.
Her Main Street event turned into a giant dance party in the street. "It was absolutely incredible," she recalled. "Over 1,000 people were dancing at 9 in the morning, freezing cold...about 20 degrees...it was awesome!". This and other events have so far raised over $80,000 for research on Parkinson's.
Zoe didn't stop after that viral campaign. She continues to create events that bring in money to fund the fight against Parkinson's. Whether she is dancing or donating, this amazing kid will stop at nothing to help her father, and others, in their fight against this disease.
This heartwarming video was produced by Tracy Chevrier and shot/edited by Johnny Perez.

Spartacus The Incredible Therapy Dog Lifts Spirits
** We love our pets at OGTV and to celebrate National Pet Day, we are sharing this memorable story about a wonderful therapy dog, Spartacus, that helped kids cope with the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook. **
Have you ever wondered what special qualities are necessary to be considered a therapy dog? For the answer, take a long look at Spartacus, a 125 pound Akita, who uses his naturally loving spirit and immaculate cuddling skills to help bring light into the lives of those in need. Some people might be a little intimidated by his size at first, but Spartacus has a heart of gold!
As a therapy dog registered with Pet Partners, Spartacus has been an important part of the healing process for Sammy, one student who attended Sandy Hook Elementary School. Sammy and Spartacus met on Sammy's first day back to school after being a first hand witness and hostage in the tragic shooting. They bonded instantly and have been great friends ever since.
Spartacus and his owner, Brad Cole, were called to the school to help children with the therapy process. "Spartacus is one of the tools we've used", Brad explained. "He brings a bright spot to her day... a reminder of what's good."
Comfort dogs have been redefining the lives of those who feel discouraged, afraid, anxious, or any other negative feelings after experiencing a tragedy. The relief and fulfillment of gaining your confidence and the ability to be unapologetically vulnerable again is something that these special animals are helping these victims feel again.
Thankfully, Spartacus is helping Sammy towards a brighter future and her story can spread awareness of how critical to a full recovery a comfort dog can be.

Celebrating Birthdays for Hospitalized Kids
** Another of OGTV's "GOOD STORIES" about a couple of friends who are making sure that a hospitalized child's birthday gets all the bells and whistles they deserve! **
Kids rarely get to celebrate when they are in the hospital and having a birthday there is not the ideal situation. After seeing her godson spend some time in the hospital, surrounded by kids who were having their birthdays without the laughter and joy that comes with their special day, Stefanie Grimm had an idea. Even if you are hospitalized, there is no reason that you shouldn't have a birthday party! This generous thought was the seed that grew into The Confetti Foundation.
The mission of the Confetti Foundation is to supply birthday parties to kids who have to spend their birthdays in the hospital. The foundation was started with the hope that families will be able to shift their focus from their child's sickness for just 30 minutes and celebrate.
Here's how it works: Hospitals receive "party kits" for the child celebrating the birthday. The party kit is complete with a specific theme (there are dozens of themes for kids to choose from), decorations, snacks, gifts, and more. The hospital staff receives the party kit and performs the set up for the child and his or her family. Although the party is not a cure, it will be a welcome distraction and a good reminder that every child deserves to be celebrated!

My Dog Saved My Life Thanks To The Mr. Mo Project
** To celebrate National Hug Your Dog Day, OGTV shares this heartwarming story about Macy, a senior bull dog, who helped her owner cope with and overcome depression. **
Vicky Neville and her tender hearted bull dogs did not always have it easy. After years of heartache and enduring the loss of three bull dogs, recovering from divorce and witnessing the passing of her sister and soulmate, Vicky was admitted into inpatient care for her chronic depression.
While in recovery, she heard about the Mr. Mo Project, a non profit organization that finds loving homes for senior dogs. On Easter Sunday, Mr. Mo Project founders, Chris and Mariesa Hughes showed up at Vicky's house with Macy, a senior bull dog. Vicky and Macy connected instantly and before Vicky knew it, her life began to change.
She found herself living life again, laughing, gardening, and rediscovering the parts of her day that made her truly happy, all with her new companion by her side. We all know that shelter dogs need our love, but sometimes it's the unconditional love from a dog that can make all the difference to its owner.

How the NBA’s Cleveland Cavs Changed the Game for Their Autistic Fans
** In recognition of International ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) Day, OGTV is sharing a Good Business story about how the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers learned how to be inclusive to people with autism. **
The squeak of sneakers, the pounding of the ball on the hardwood floor, flashing lights, videos and messages on the scoreboard, dancers, PA Announcements, the roar of the crowd…. A professional basketball gamer is frantic, loud, and a lot to take in all at once for anyone. But it can also be overwhelming, especially if you have the sensory issues associated with autism.
Jeff and Amy Belles thought long and hard about whether it would be a good idea to take their son Carson, who is autistic, to a Cleveland Cavaliers basketball game at Quicken Loans Arena. Then the "Q Center" offered an Autism Awareness Night, and they thought this would be the perfect opportunity for him to see a game.
Much to their dismay, the experience was not good one. Carson was mistreated by Q Center Staff, taking a personal item from him as he tried to make his way through security upon. Jeff and Amy were told to "get their son under control," and were stunned by the lack of sensitivity. The experience was so traumatic that they decided to take to twitter to explain the mistreatment they received. When hearing their story, senior vice president of facility operations, Antony Bonovita, knew something had to be done. He reached out to Amy and Jeff who urged him to train his staff on what it means to be inclusive to people with autism.
Anthony, having a son of his own with autism, took their feedback to heart. "It was not enough just to say we will train people," he explained. "We could institute a sensory program, we could build a sensory room. We can do more because it's the right thing to do." He engaged with Kulture City, a nonprofit based in Birmingham, Alabama, that had already developed sensory inclusion training and brought it into the "Q". He also included Jeff and Amy to help create the program and take it to another level.
See how Sensory Rooms and other materials now available at The Q have made it possible for those with autism, PTSD, and other sensory conditions to enjoy an experience in their facility. "Who doesn't want to be in a room with Bubble Walls and art you can squeeze?" Antony raves. "It's a great place to come and chill out! My son, your child, gets to come to a game now. I get to go home and smile about that."
