Love Never Forgets: An Alzheimer's Love Story
Verna and Jerry Kinersly have been happily married for 60 years. When Verna was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, it became difficult for the couple to reflect on the cherished memories they share. Jerry took the role of Verna's caretaker and is constantly by her side, helping her with daily activities, reminding her of important things, and updating her bulletin board of helpful reminders.
"She's the love of my life," said Jerry. "This is the happiest ending anyone could have; sixty years of loving times together."
The couple found a nonprofit called Keep Memory Alive at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas. The organization helps those living with Alzheimer's navigate the extraordinary challenges of the disease. Their goal is to provide a safe, comfortable environment for people to come to and feel that their problems and situation matters. They deal with issues involving Alzheimer's and dementia and give people like Verna and Jerry hope that a cure will be found!
"We've been together for sixty years..." Jerry reminisced, with Verna cutting in, "and we still like each other!"
We wish them the best as they continue to face their challenges and grow together in their amazing love.
