High School Rallies Around A Very Special Prom Queen
Kate Ukropina was just voted prom queen at Wilton High School in Wilton, CT. What sets her apart from other prom queens is that Kate has cerebral palsy.
It all started when Kate’s classmate, Nicole Berg, wanted to help make Kate’s senior year memorable. According to Nicole, she did not want to do it because of Kate’s special needs. She wanted to do it because Kate is an amazing person. She is nice, sociable, and genuine and is well liked by her classmates.
In an interview with Good Morning Wilton Nicole said “Everyone knows her, not because of her special needs, but because she’s so friendly.”
Nicole started a Facebook campaign in a group for WHS seniors to help get classmates to vote for Kate, and her classmates responded. Luckily for Nicole, Kate was not in the group. This allowed the class to plan writing Kate’s name in on the ballot without Kate finding out.
Nicole was unsure if her efforts would end in success but everything ended up working out. Not only did Kate win, but her classmates happily cheered as she received her crown. Berg credits not herself, but her entire class. “I’m so happy that everyone was able to find it in themselves to do that. I was so happy for the class to come together on this one big thing, and all of us give her something amazing. I’m so happy to be part of this.”
A selfless act by an entire class, done for a selfless person.
