First Runway Model With Down Syndrome Is Empowering Women
Jamie Brewer will be New York Fashion Week's first model with Down syndrome. You may recognize her from the show American Horror Story. Jamie is dedicated to being a role model for all women of any age. She is an advocate for the Down syndrome community and other charites and nonprofits. "Young girls and even young women...[see me] and say 'hey, if she can do it so can I,'" Brewer told Today. "It's a true inspiration being a role model for any young women to [encourage them] in being who they are and showing who they are." During Fashion Week she will be wearing a gown from Carrie Hammer, who features women that don't look like your traditional idea of a supermodel through her campaign called "Role Models Not Runway Models." This campaign uses every day women to model Hammer's designs. Together, Jamie and Carrie are hoping to empower women everywhere.
