Fashion Week’s Runway Welcomes First Quadruple Amputee
The past two years have been quite an adjustment period for 31-year-old Karen Crespo. Two years ago she contracted bacterial meningitis, and doctors needed to amputate all four of her limbs in order to save her life. During her recovery and through her therapies, Crespo heard of fashion designer Carrie Hammer, who featured New York Fashion Week’s first model in a wheelchair. This story inspired Crespo so much that she reached out to the fashion designer. The fashion designer was so moved by Karen’s hardships and Karen’s story that she decided to give Karen her moment to shine.
And boy, did she shine bright. Crespo looked beautiful on the runway, and not only was she a runway model but a role model as well.
