** To celebrate World Kindness Day, OGTV is sharing this story about non-profit volunteers who go above and beyond to be kind to special needs kids by using their creativity to customize their sneakers. **
A pair of shoes can go a long way. Peach's Neet Feet is a non-profit which hand paints personalized shoes for children living will illness and disabilities. Madison Steiner, also known as Peach, created Peach's Neet Feet to promote kindness and selfless acts of giving. It's obvious how happy these children and parents are when they receive their freshly laced up sneakers!
This story highlights a day dedicated to those contraptions that keep our feet safe. We may take them for granted... as some people aren't blessed enough to even have a pair. That's where Peach comes in. She hand paints shoes to give to kids suffering from illness or disability.

The Honor Flights Network Gives War Veterans Free Trip to Washington DC
** To commemorate Veterans Day, OGTV is sharing this video to give thanks to the generations of veterans who have sacrificed so much to protect our freedom. **
The Honor Flights Network, a non-profit organization, makes it their year-long mission to provide free transportation to American veterans to Washington DC so that they can have the opportunity to reflect on their service. From the Korean War to the Vietnam War and beyond, all Veterans are invited to participate, however, special consideration is given to our American Veterans who fought during WWII.
"I think this one of the greatest things for adults who haven't had the experience and for youth that come along, to realize what a great country we have," noted veteran Raymond Leak. "Know that liberty wasn't given to us. It was paid for by sacrifice."
According to the Department of Veteran's Affairs, 640 WWII Veterans pass away everyday. In honor of their sacrifice, the Honor Flights Network gives priority to those who served during the global crisis before time runs out.
Our gratitude and love goes to all our veterans.
This video was produced by Lucia Nazzaro and shot/edited by Emmutt Williams.

The Creation of Us (S2:E5) – Anatomy and Adoption
** OGTV celebrates World Adoption Day with a re-release of this episode of the Creation of Us where we are reminded of the long journey that Heather and Christen had to take before they could become the legal parents of their baby to be, Freya. **
Becoming pregnant and giving birth are the two most celebrated moments for a couple starting a family. But what happens in between, especially for an LGBTQ couple? In this episode of The Creation Of Us, Heather and Christen take us on two important expert visits – one at the hospital for a full body scan of the baby and one to an attorney to review all of the legal requirements and protections that will allow them to become the family they want to be.
They start at Winthrop Hospital near their home in Westbury, Long Island. It's Week 21 of the pregnancy and time for the scheduled Anatomy Scan to verify that the baby is developing normally. "What I'm most excited for today is that we haven't seen the baby in about eight weeks," Christen noted. "I'm excited to hear the heartbeat again and to just be able to see how it's growing. I can't wait to be able to see it moving around and know that everything is all OK."
At this stage, an expert's eye can tell what the sex of the baby is. After the exam, the hospital team put their findings in a sealed envelope and gave it to them and now Heather and Christen have to battle their curiosity and not peek. They have a special moment planned for revealing this secret and it's going to be very hard not to sneak a look.
Their next stop is with an adoption attorney to make sure they understand all of the procedures and paperwork for Heather to adopt the baby and become a legally approved parent. They want to learn and understand their rights as an LGBTQ couple and avoid any issues that would to slow down the process or prevent them from achieving their goals.
"My fears on this entire adoption process are … is this going to work? … will this be approved? ," Heather admitted. "I know obviously that this is legal, but I'm just nervous for any bumps in the road." Christen wants to make sure they are clear about all of the protections recently passed laws provide as well as any possible hurdles that are not clear so that they can figure out how to get over them, together.
With the baby due in the fall, this may be the toughest part of their journey so far. See how Heather and Christen lean of each other as they navigate through the medical and legal realities of becoming parents in these complicated times.

7-Year-Old Gives Bags Full Of Blessings To The Homeless
Meet Caiden Perez, the 7-year-old boy with a giant heart. Living in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Caiden has made it his personal mission to help the homeless by giving out "Blessing Bags", Ziploc bags filled with daily necessities such as water, food, toothbrushes, socks, etc. Caiden looks forward each weekend to personally giving out these Blessing Bags with the support of his father and church.
After first observing homeless people on the street, he initially wanted to host a pizza party, but realized it wasn't what they really needed. "Homeless means they're poor, they don't have money, they don't have food, they don't have a bed to sleep in. They need stuff to survive in summer, fall, winter and spring", Caiden explained. His mission is not only inspiring, but truly heart-warming in wanting to help those around him that are in need.

Miles O'Brien and Francesco Clark Talk Overcoming Limits - Fearless Like Me (E3)
** OGTV's first GOOD STORY of week puts together one of our stars, Francesco Clark, host of Fearless like Me, and renowned journalist, Mile's O'Brien, for a candid discussion on how to overcome the effects of a life changing event. **
Opening a door, unpacking a knapsack, or preparing a hot drink before you start your day are tasks you complete without thinking during a typical day at school or work. Now imagine waking up tomorrow and suddenly facing those same tasks for the first time without one of your arms or the use of your legs. How would you manage? In this episode of Fearless Like Me, Francesco speaks with Miles O'Brien, a veteran journalist who was suddenly forced to face this type of new reality after a seemingly minor mishap on a photo shoot.
Miles is the science correspondent for PBS NewsHour, a producer and director for the PBS science documentary series NOVA, and a correspondent for the PBS documentary series FRONTLINE. For nearly seventeen of his thirty-two years in the news business, he worked for CNN as the science, environment and aerospace space correspondent and the anchor of various programs. A general aviation pilot and a man with lofty aspirations, Miles secured a deal with NASA to become the first journalist to fly on the space shuttle.
When a heavy camera equipment case fell on his forearm during an assignment, Miles was bruised but not overly concerned. When it didn't heal normally and he went for further testing, he received a diagnosis of Acute Compartment Syndrome which necessitated the emergency amputation of his left arm above the elbow. In a flash, all that he knew was suddenly altered and his once certain future was clouded.
Miles had seen people face challenges and overcome them, including his sister who battled Stage 4 Breast Cancer and lived a fulfilling life. When he returned to his on air position, he asked his executive producer how she wanted to handle his new "look". "She said, just be you, be Miles", he recalled. "Could you ask for a better response? I'm not going to mask or hide it, I'm going to let people see me as who I am."
That was a critical early step for Miles to accept his new reality. Another was keeping a positive attitude about what he is able to do while avoiding the trap of dwelling on the 'what if?' scenarios of his accident. A thought Miles keeps top of mind is: "You can spend your life thinking about what you've lost, or what you have."
Watch as Francesco explores this transformation with him, and learn how he is overcoming the stigma of being different and living with limitations, something they both know a great deal about.

After Losing Her Husband In Combat, This Marine Widow Created A Veterans-Focused Business
The loss of a partner can completely derail a life. For young Brittney Hogan, that nearly happened, until she found her path out of the darkness.
Brittney was just 20 years old when she met, fell in love with, and married a young United States Marine named Hunter Hogan. When Hunter got stationed in North Carolina, the couple uprooted and moved there from their home in San Diego, committed to staying as close as possible even as Hunter got called up for service in Afghanistan. Just before he departed, Hunter told Brittney that he knew he'd be back with her soon, because he had her to come home to. But life had other plans.
Five months after they moved to North Carolina together, Brittney and Hunter were separately permanently, when Hunter was killed during his tour. Brittney became a widow at 22 years old.
"When you're finally by yourself, you're like, whoa, this is reality," Brittney says. It was a reality that she struggled to cope with for about a year, as she turned to alcohol and anti-anxiety medication that made it hard for her to get out into the world or hold down a job. Fortunately, Brittney eventually discovered the habit that would pull her back into the light: running.
Brittney moved back to San Diego, kept running, and by the end of her first year of training, she completed a half marathon.
She was hooked—and she also saw potential in her new passion, to allow her to help others. Spurred by her personal experience with the transformative power of fitness and wellness, Brittney created an apparel line called Virago Fitness. And Brittney made sure that her new business would honor her late husband's life: Virago employs mostly military veterans and their families, and a portion of the company's proceeds go to the HD Hogan Memorial Rodeo Scholarship Fund and the USO.
Thanks to Brittney's determination and will power, she has not only turned her life around, she's also created what will be a positive cycle of support for military families for years to come.
