13 Thought Provoking Quotes About Diversity

Sure, difference can be challenging. But getting to know other people's perspectives can lead to greater harmony and humanity.

We at OGTV embrace diversity and believe in the benefits we as individuals and a society can gain if we do more to listen to different points of view. We don't have to always agree; we just need to care to try to understand what makes someone else tick.

Sure, difference can be challenging. If you've got a homogenous group of people who all think alike, it's easier to reach a comfortable consensus. Diversity means including people with different perspectives, different experiences, different opinions, and perhaps different working styles or expectations. Inclusion creates a much more harmonious whole and can open eyes to wonderful ideas that one never thought of before.

Here are just 15 of our favorite quotes about diversity and inclusion:

Boy Gives Baby Yoda To Firefighters - "The Force" Spreads (70 Photos!)

Crews Battling Oregon Wildfires Pass "The Force" Karma To Firefighters Across State Lines

5-year old Carver was shopping for food to donate to firefighters with his Grandma when they saw a Baby Yoda, all by itself, on the shelf. They both agreed that Baby Yoda would make a great friend for the men and women battling the raging deadly fires. Carver wrote a note thanking the firefighters and introducing them to their new friend and left Baby Yoda with all the other donations.

Tyler Eubanks, one of the donor volunteers. saw the note and was so moved that she took some photos of the firefighters with Baby Yoda to send to Carver in appreciation of his gift. The Firefighters have taken Baby Yoda with them on every fire fight, snapping photos with their new mascot every chance they get.

Tyler created a Facebook Page, @babyyodafightsfires, so that everyone could see the photos and offer their love and warm wishes to the men and women who are risking their lives in a quiet unassuming way to tame these infernos.

Please visit, no matter where you are, and add to "The Force" of appreciation for these heroes!

Lots more Baby Yoda & Friends photos below!

Lucky 13 Stress Management Tips For The Pandemic

ARGH!@%*?! ... COVID-19 or Not, We All Need To Manage Stress

Are you feeling stressed lately? Are recent events making you want to tear your hair out in frustration? Join the CROWD. But, here's some advice that just might help. May seem simple and obvious, but have you tried it??

1. Stay Positive
A positive attitude can help you feel less stressed by events in your life! A positive attitude does not mean completely ignoring anything negative, but being optimistic about the future.

2. Practice Relaxation Techniques

Yoga and meditation are well-known to help practitioners feel much more relaxed. If not, simply take a walk outside and observe nature as a way to feel a sense of calm. Consider giving any of them a try.

3. Eat Healthy Meals

A well-balanced diet helps your body fight off stress, so make sure to eat healthy meals! Lower your intake of simple carbohydrates and eat more whole grains, for example. And eating well, doesn't mean going on a diet necessarily; it means eating healthy foods.

4. Be Assertive (Without Being Aggressive)

Assert your beliefs and ideas to others without anger or a nasty attitude. Do not, however, be too passive, either. Find a balance between the two extremes that will allow you to get your ideas across in a way that does not create stress for yourself and others. The goal is to express yourself respectfully and never feel demeaned.

5. Come to Peace With Being Unable to Control Most Events

Not all events in your life can be influenced by your actions. Understanding that your plans can be derailed through no fault of your own may actually help reduce stress. Take charge of what you can but recognize your limitations and deal with it accordingly.

6. Exercise Often
Remember: A healthy body means a body that fights off stress more easily, so exercise regularly! It doesn't matter what your exercise is. You can run, you can do pushups, you can bike ride but whatever it is... Get into a routine!

7. Manage Your Time Properly

Schedule yourself so that you get work done as efficiently as possible. If you are a list maker, make one and try to check off all the items you can. The better you schedule your work, the less stressed you will be.

8. Leave Time For Relaxation

Have time in your schedule for hobbies or anything else you enjoy doing. If you never give yourself time to unwind, your life might be nothing but stress-inducing work! And if you don't have anything in particular to do every day, then just Veg Out, Chill Out, or Space Out... as long as you time to relax.

9. Have Limits and Refuse Anything That Would Be Too Stressful

If a task seems like too much for you, and you have a real choice, turn it down! Too much work will create a high level of stress for you, and the final result of any work you take on will likely end up being worse.

10. Limit Your Alcohol And Avoid Drugs

While alcohol might be able to dampen the responses of the stress hormone known as cortisol, it can also lengthen those responses. Alcohol addiction is also tied to cortisol's pleasure-reducing, habit-formation encouraging effects. Drinking alcohol also stresses out your body in and of itself.[i] Similar effects result from drug abuse,

11. Get a Decent Amount of Sleep

Make sure to have a healthy sleep schedule so that you can recover from stressful situations you have encountered over the period of a given day. In addition, being tired during the day can lead to stressful situations.

12. Spend Time With People Whose Company You Enjoy

Hanging out with friends and family you like spending time with is a great way to relieve stress! Make plans every now and then to do something with some people you know! Whether via Zoom, Skype or however you can, reach out to family and friends. You will feel the camaraderie, the relief in knowing you are not the only one felling as you do... and the love.

13. If Necessary, Don't Hesitate To See A Professional

If all else fails, talk to a psychologist or other mental health doctor about whatever it is that is stressing you out. You are not alone in your feelings and should not be fearful or shy about reaching out. These people can teach you other ways to manage stress.

Shut Down Chef Perseveres Just To Feed Kids In Need

Gives up her dream to serve meals to the most vulnerable food insecure in our communities.

Things were going exceptionally well at the restaurant; she had even expanded to add more seating. She'd be adding more customers and staff to cook and serve them. Millie was living her dream. Then the pandemic hit and at the same time, gas leaks were discovered. She was shocked by this news and what followed meant disaster, the restaurant's Utilities had to be cut off. She went from running a popular restaurant, Millie Peartree Fish Fry & Soul Food, to scrambling to see what comes next.

She started to do private catering and booked several events until COVID-19 slowed things down. Thankfully, she was asked to help Laura Brown, the editor-in-chief of InStyle magazine, who wanted to donate meals on behalf of her company. "In a matter of months, Millie Peartree Catering had fed nearly 6,000 essential workers, including hospital staff, USPS workers, MTA employees and bodega workers, as well as protesters."

Millie then got this wonderful idea about helping children in need. She knew that the pandemic was forcing a lot of critically important soup kitchens and food pantries to close - jeopardizing the meals for thousands of children. So, Millie started Full Heart Full Bellies to provide prepared meals for children in grades K through 12 in the poorest neighborhoods she knew, the Bronx.

In the Bronx, 31 percent of all children live in food insecure homes; that is, one in four – do not always know where their next meal is coming from. In light of these numbers, Food Bank For New York City called for enactment of the New York City Council's proposal that free school lunch be provided to all children in the City's public schools, noting that it would help end the stigma surrounding free school lunch. With most summer programs canceled due to COVID-19, we want to assure that children have at least one hot meal 3 times a week to fill their bellies and help fill the growing meal gap that exists for struggling families.

It is an ongoing fight and we are thankful that Millie Peartree has taken it on.
