Cop Who Saved Girl's Life 22 Years Ago Now Attends Her Wedding
Cops do heroic deeds every day. But not all end in saving a life and gaining a family. 22 years ago, Captain Joseph Barca of Yonkers, New York Police Department responded to a call where a baby stopped breathing. Barca saved Shammarah Hamideh's life that day. Hamideh's family invited the officer and his wife over for dinner, and a lifetime friendship began. Every year, Barca sends Hamideh a birthday card. Barca told TODAY, "After it happened, her father told me, 'We gave her life the first time, and you gave her life the second time,' and that's the way they've treated me ever since. They have said, 'You're her American father." Now, 22 years later Barca will be attending Hamideh's wedding. This proves that family isn't always blood. It's about the people who love you. The people who will always be there for you. That is family.
