Coach Dean Smith Leaves Gift For Players In His Will
Dean Smith was the beloved head basketball coach at North Carolina for 36 seasons. With years of service and dedication, his passing was a great loss. Smith died last month at age 83 and left something very special in his will. He left a $200.00 check to every letter winner who played for him in his career. Smith's trustee, Tim Breedlove, spoke to ESPN and told them about 180 letter winners will receive the gift.
The people who knew him say this was exactly the kind of man he was; thoughtful and giving. One letter was actually leaked to social media. A letter addressed to player Dante Calabria said, "Enjoy a dinner out compliments of Coach Dean Smith." Smith clearly loved his job and players more than anyone knew. This was his chance to say 'Thank You' one last time.
