6 Random Acts of Kindness By Civil Servants
Police officers and firefighters dedicate their lives to serving their communities. However, some of these civil servants exceed their expectations. Here are six examples of firefighters and police officers going above and beyond that are sure to make you smile.
The Basketball Cop
In 2016, Officer Bobby White responded to a noise complaint about a group of kids playing basketball. Instead of sending the boys home, Officer White joined their game. After the dash cam footage of the incident went viral, Officer White began to receive donated sports equipment. He then decided to start the Basketball Cop Foundation, which distributes donated basketballs and hoops to police departments throughout the country.
Police at the Prom
Thanks to the officers of the Boynton Beach police department, the special needs students of John I. Leonard High School were able to attend their prom. The officers took the students as their dates, and the students were able to attend an event that they otherwise would not have been able to.
Dancing in the Firehouse
Dare to Dance has one mission: to get Fifi a new set of legs. Fifi was born prematurely, and developed cerebral palsy as a result. In this video, the Los Angeles Fire Department participates in the challenge to raise awareness for the cause.
Kindness is Contagious
When a young boy was caught sneaking onto a fitness center's private basketball court, Officer Mario Valenti saw an opportunity to make a difference. Officer Valenti knew that the boy's actions were benign, and paid to renew his membership. The fitness center was moved by the gesture, and extended the membership from four months to two years!
Save a Life, Mow a Lawn
A fire department in Baytown, Texas responded to a 911 call about a man with heart failure. After he had left in an ambulance, the group noticed that he had collapsed while mowing his lawn. The firefighters proceeded to take turns and finish the job for him in an unprompted act of kindness.
Recognizing a Hero
Officer Mitch Brouillette is the resource officer at Heritage High School in Brentwood, California. He is adored by his students, who tell us that he is kind, approachable, and a friend to all. One boy recalls a time when he struggled with anger issues; to help alleviate some of his stress, Officer Mitch worked out with him in the school weight room. But for all of his good deeds, the students felt that Mitch deserved more recognition. In this video, the students honor Mitch for all of his good deeds.
