Celebrating The Life Of Legendary Poet Maya Angelou
Legendary best-selling author and America's Poet Laureate, Dr. Maya Angelou, has passed away.
In a statement, her family remembered her as a person who “lived a life as a teacher, activist, artist and human being. She was a warrior for equality, tolerance and peace. The family is extremely appreciative of the time we had with her and we know that she is looking down upon us with love.”
Angelou was the author of the international best seller, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," a memoir that portrayed what it was like living in the Jim Crow South.
In 2010, President Barack Obama named her the recipient of the Medal of Freedom, the country's highest civilian honor.
Angelou was 86.
