Beautiful Winter Photos Of Cities You'll Love To See This Winter Solstice
These photos are hauntingly beautiful to say the least. Though his photos capture many cities, Christophe Jacrot's images all portray the same whispered beauty of a snowfall.
The weather seems to pull, tug and caress Jacrot's subjects--a man tugging war on his umbrella with the wind, a smiling woman keeping balance as a wet sidewalk laps at her feet. Not to mention, the backdrop--and often the foreground--of snow and steam surrounds objects, making them more vibrant by comparison. By surrounding a green umbrella, flakes seem to drench it in a darker shade. A blue road sign, just barely visible, peaks out from behind a tree. Its blue hue is betrayed by the white, monochromatic setting.
Often the figures walking through the snow, huddled beneath a hood, face covered by layers of scarf, melt into their surroundings. The falling flakes, though clearly in motion, attach themselves to the people and things they fall by. Imagining that everything in Jacrot's photos are naturally spotted is easy.
The wintered environment makes the people walking through it appear spirit-like, wandering intently from here to there in a state of Limbo. The pictures--cocktails of beauty, and mystery--are shot with admirable skill and speak quiet volumes in tribute of the Winter season.
