Beating Breast Cancer on The Runway

#Cancerland was started by Champagne Joy, a fearless survivor of Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer, who desperately wished to change the world and create awareness for metastatic cancer survivors. Her goal was to have survivors walk the runway at Fashion Week in NYC and in 2017, she made it happen! Sixteen metastatic breast cancer models all wore AnaOno lingerie and lounge-wear designed specifically for women who have had mastectomies, breast reconstruction or breast surgery following a cancer diagnosis. Sadly, Champagne Joy passed away shortly after the 2017 Runway Show.

To honor Champagne's vision, AnaOno returned to Art Hearts Fashion, a philanthropic-minded runway collective, and will again be a part of the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) show in partnership with #Cancerland: a New York based non-profit dedicated to changing the conversation about metastatic breast cancer through the honest voices of those living with the disease every day.

Dana Donofree, Fashion Designer and Founder of AnaOno, and a breast cancer "thriver", has dedicated her efforts to bringing beauty, comfort and confidence to fellow people with breast cancer. "I've been a fashion designer my whole life", she explains, "and when I found a new body I had after surgery, I wanted to feel like myself again." Dana's idea for the future of AnaOno is beyond providing beauty and quality in a product, it is about providing beauty and quality in life. As a brand ethos, AnaOno wants those battling breast cancer to know you are NEVER ALONE.

Dana is honored to send her Spring/Summer 2018 Collection down the runway on a powerful, diverse group of individuals, ranging from athletes to musicians, educators to activists, age 20 to over 50. Encompassing varying stages of breast cancer diagnoses, surgery and reconstruction choices as well as surgical scarring, all thirty patients walking the show are set to bravely expose the reality of breast cancer alongside their own strength and determination in fighting through the battle.

Rhayne Thomas is one of the proud participants and she shared her own message about her unique experience. "I'm walking the runway because I want to prove that breast cancer does not define us as women. Cancer is a liar and a thief. Do not let it take your joy, your peace, and your beauty away from you."

According to actor and supporter Mira Sorvino, only 2% of the money from all the ribbons and races goes to finding a cure for metastatic breast cancer, which kills 108 women per day. Please watch and learn more.
