An Artist Discovers His Passion For Drawing At Age 58

John Herz found a new passion late in life...age 58 to be exact. For the past 6 years, John has worked as a graphite pencil artist. He never realized he had artistic talent until prompted by his family to take up drawing as a stress reliever. Now, he dedicates his life to his artwork.

He has had great success selling his pencil drawings online and in art galleries throughout New England. His favorite subjects are everyday people he meets on the streets of New York and he hopes to evoke emotion with each one of his paintings.

"I'm a firm believer in encouraging people to do what they love," John advises. " If you have any interest in any art form, go for it! You never know where it will lead you."

He has appeared at the Pottery Barn and Walt Whitman Shops for a Pop-Up art show. Part of the proceeds from the new, never before seen pieces, will benefit United Veterans Beacon House, shelters for Veterans.

Brett Simon was a veteran K9 police officer who went on to work as a contractor for the Department of the Army as a bomb dog handler. However, after serving two tours in Iraq, he returned home suffering from PTSD.

Their research focused on canine assistance for PTSD. Ultimately, they started a non-profit organization. K9s For Warriors, dedicated to providing service dogs to warriors suffering from post-traumatic stress and/or traumatic brain injury as a result of their military service (post 9/11).
