A Very Special Boy Sees Past Disability
Katie Meyers’ son, Kaden, has spinal muscular atrophy, and that disability is a big part of her life as much as she hates to admit it. Kaden, who is only a year old, is confined to a wheelchair and has limited mobility. Katie is used to helping Kaden through his disability because she feels that it is her only choice.
Until they went to the museum.
While Kaden was at the museum, an older boy started playing with the boy in the wheelchair. He didn’t ask questions and he didn’t think twice. They would play together and everything that Kaden couldn’t do, the stranger would handle. If the ball got too far away from the boys while they were playing, the stranger didn’t hesitate to go and find it.
Watching all of this unfold, Katie was overwhelmed by the kindness this boy showed to her son. After being asked constantly about Kaden’s condition, it was nice for Katie to see someone who didn’t have questions. He was just a boy, looking for a friend to play with, whether he was in a wheelchair or not.
