90-Year-Old Woman Paints Landscape After Stroke
Reddit user, ceesick, recently uploaded a photo of a painted, autumn landscape. It appears at first like the successful culmination of a new artist's learned skills after a painting class. Needless to say, it is astonishing then that picture was created by a 90-year-old stroke victim. Ceesick said, in the title of the post, that his grandmother had never painted before in her life. In the comment section, he/she said this was literally his/her grandmother's first attempt at anything artistic; "she has never so much as doodled in the margins of her crossword puzzles." Now, after a serious medical emergency, the 90-year-old completed an impressive first painting in a nursing home.
The Redditor also said the family isn't sure whether the landscape was inspired by a real location, or a figment of the grandmother's imagination. "We think it's the view from the porch of the family lake cabin," Ceesick said in response to another redditor's questions. "But she doesn't know for sure. She has pretty severe aphasia, and can't explain herself very well."
The picture made the front page of Reddit within hours. Ceesick, shocked, and probably thrilled, posted another comment to thank other users for voting for the post:
holy cow. front page. i mean...wow. If grandma understood what reddit was she would be pleased. Actually, no she's pretty cranky. She might crack half a smile. Thanks again everyone!
