David Cohen is a 12-year-old that realizes mosquitoes are not only annoying, but they are deadly too. Earlier this year, he became a finalist at the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge after submitting a robot that can end the pesky insects. The young inventor created a robot that drowns the pests using a pump-jet system that traps them underwater using mesh. He came up with the idea after his sister got a serious staph infection from a mosquito bite. He also realizes the bugs carry malaria, killing over 600,000 people each year. All of the finalists were paired with a mentor. David was paired with new product development specialist Langer-Anderson, who said the Dallas preteen's unique perspective makes him a standout scientist.
